With the ability for anyone to make their own brand from home and the continued prevalence of social media platforms, there has been a sharp increase in the number of brands people are exposed to every single day. If you know how to use a platform to give a product, whether that be something tangible or intangible, all you need to do is answer a few questions to give you and your brand a leg up: what is a brand? What makes a brand successful? Here are some steps for building your own brand that is genuine, longlasting, appealing, and successful.
Creating and Building Your Brand
Define your own brand
Your brand is who you are, what you do, and what you provide. There are some essential questions you need to ask yourself in order to be able to create and build an overview of your brand. Be known for something specific and create an image and platform that supports what you want to do most.
Define what success looks like for you
It’s imperative to be able to set clear and realistic goals that you can easily track in order to both define and see progress. So many times, people don’t know what to look for in their data and statistics that they could define as success and progress. You can set monthly or yearly goals or even benchmarks for you to hit. If you’re a video content creator, you would want to consider the number of hits and followers that you’ve accumulated. If you’re a blogger, you might define your success as partners, hits, or how many times your work has been shared.
Creating Your Community
Identify your target audience and consumer
Now that you have your brand and know why you’re doing what you do, who are you doing it for? Who are the people that could benefit from whatever service and product that you’re providing? Being able to specifically identify your target audience and consumer means that you can build your own community of supporters, subscribers, and followers with more ease with more targeted purposeful messaging and service.
Connect with your consumers
In order to be able to find the most success, it’s important to build a relationship with your consumers and audience. Find ways to acknowledge them and show your appreciation on your platforms and in your products. This will help you seem more real and personable because it’s easy to be shadowed by the concept of a product or a brand and by having a close relationship with your consumers, you’ll have a stronger foundation and community to be able to continue building your brand.
Focus on the consumer
Another mistake that people make once they start hitting the ground running is that they lose sight of why they started their brand in the first place. While being able to profit off of your work is important, you can’t forget all those who supported you. Remember to focus on the consumer in order to be able to keep on having that connection with your community.
Sustaining Your Brand Organically
Do something you’re actually passionate about and enjoy
No matter what, work is work and it’s bound to take a toll on you. However, doing something that actually brings you joy and that you like will make your hard work seem less like work. This also helps to prevent burnout and is better for your mental health. You’ll also feel more connected to what your doing, be more engaged, and improve the quality of whatever you do on a more consistent basis.
Surround yourself with others who inspire and motivate you
Proactively making sure to be around people who inspire and push you will not only give you both extrinsic and intrinsic motivation to work harder, better, or more efficiently, but will also provide you with the framework for a community that will ensure that you don’t get stuck in the same routine and experience burnout and a lack of motivation, which can easily lead to a weaker brand. You’ll want to be a better version of yourself, which can help you lead a more fulfilled and happy life, according to Harvard Business Review’s Claudio Fernández-Aráoz.
Be genuine and consistent
Whether it’s in interactions, providing your service or product, or even just presenting yourself, being genuine and consistent in all that you do builds your reputability, character, and relationship with your audience.
